Description of Program:

The Department of Special Education is part of the University of Florida’s College of Education, founded in 1905. The Department is nationally recognized and ranked in the top 10 special education programs in the United States. We offer undergraduate, master's, specialist, and doctoral programs in special education.

The Kids in Development Study Research team at the University of Florida specializes in working with children with Autism and children from multi-risk families and communities. They will be working closely with the Head Start and Early Head Start programs in the Gainesville community and Project GATORSS, a project within the Department of Special Education that serves children with autism

The Department of Special Education is extremely productive in grant activities and specialized projects. Currently, more than 30 grants are active covering personnel preparation and a wide range of research topics.

The mission of the College of Education is to prepare exemplary professional practitioners and scholars; to generate, use, and disseminate knowledge about teaching, learning, and human development, and to collaborate with others global community.

It is our goal to promote the successful inclusion of individuals with disabilities and their families into society. Toward that end we seek to educate teachers and leaders to perform at the highest levels as practitioners through the dissemination and application of existing knowledge. Further, we strive to generate new knowledge that will enhance and expand the scope of experiences and opportunities available to individuals with disabilities and their families.
